Throw Some Light On “Disappearing Daughters Of India” on this Republic Day

Today we at India, are celebrating 62nd Republic Day of India.  Let me take this opportunity to wish all of you a Happy Republic Day. Being independent and republic  nation means a lot. We as a nation are marching ahead in several fields. Our economy is  stable , Government is stable and hence we have a wonderful time in our country.

However, if we take time and do little bit of SWOT Analysis of our nation, its citizens and the situations in it; we do find so many painful things happening. Who is going to sort all these issues? Why is that we need to bear all these with silence? Aren’t we part of the system? . Isn’t it our  basic duty to reform our system? It is not fine arguing with Government all the times about our rights, we need to do our duties as citizens to keep our country clean and developed. A Nation is not a mysterious thing from utopia, it’s a perfect collection of people like all of us 🙂

In India,  from several centuries we consider our land as Bharatamata (Mother India). This shows the respect we try to give to the Women in the country. We at India believe in the concept ” “Yatra Nari Astu Pujyante, Ramante Tatra Devataa” (The Gods reside in places where woman is worshiped).  We have a Woman President to the Republic of India, we have Woman speaker to Lok Sabha, We have woman leaders heading the main political parties, we do have wonderful successful women in sports, education, business. Women are excelling in everything.

Everything sounds perfect and interesting. However, in the same land where woman are treated with at most respect still there are tons of people who strongly believe that “Female Child is a NOT WORTHY. Investing time, money on a Female Child is WASTE. Educating a FEMALE CHILD is WASTE of MONEY”.  With this thought process those people don’t even want to bring the child to the Earth. They are killing it before it comes to Earth. How sad!!!! These are not the thoughts process of the illiterate, poor people…educated, rich people too think in this manner. The percentage of these type of people is not negligible and its alarming to think about the negativity they spread among others.

Indian Government, hoping to raise awareness about the horrors of sex-selection, abortion and female infant abandonment declared the day Jan 24th as National Girl Child Day. According to the 2001 census, the sex ratio is more dangerous in urban areas than in rural parts. Rural areas have 946 females per 1,000 males but in urban areas, the figure is at 900. Official figures also say that more than 10 million girls have been ‘missing’ in India over the past two decades because of sex-selection abortion(Source:Newsone)

The research, conducted in sites across five states in north and northwest India reveals:

• ratios of girls to boys aged 0-6 across four out of five sites are now lower than in 2001

• ratios are declining fastest in comparatively prosperous urban areas

• in areas with limited access to public health facilities and modern ultrasound technology, girls are more likely to be born, but less

likely to survive

• lower birth rates and higher mortality rates for second and third daughters through selective abortions and neglect

• a trend for smaller families is deepening the aversion to daughters

• laws banning prenatal sex detection and sex-selective abortions are being ignored as ultrasound technology is widely and explicitly used for

sex selection

• given the enormous pressure on families to avoid having girls, the use of ultrasound technology is now considered a ‘rational’ way to plan

a family

• despite policies to address girls’ rights and improvements in women’s literacy, education and employment, the pressure to produce a male

heir remains. (Courtesy:Actionaid article )

Are’nt these things alarming!!! Its time to stop flaunting about past glories and shift our focus to the present problems. Gender Equality need to be promoted and the girl child need to be encouraged. Just as there is huge gap between the poor and rich in Indian people there is immense gap between different sections of women. One side of the spectrum we have women who lead the nation and on the other side we have women who are not even given the basic opportunities and rights. Its time there is equality even in women. Its time we just stop worshipping women just for the namesake instead we treat women as equal people . Thow Some Light On “Disappearing Daughters Of India” on this Republic Day. Live and let them live. Don’t let them disappear.

Some Random Songs Of These Days…

Can’t beleive that I did not blog for these many days 😉 . There was no specific reason for not blogging, I did not really feel like blogging. Time is never a constraint for me to blog. Reason!!! I do not take much time to write any blog post…any blog post is something I write spontaneoustly…write down as I feel….hahha..this is blogging and this is nothing new …any blogger blogs follows the same  method 😀 .

Music and Books are those wonderful things which come to my rescue when I really need some relaxation.  Got to hear several new tracks, those are not new to the world but to new to me. So I thought I should share some of those songs here.

1)Bruno Mars – Just the Way You are : I love the lyrics , the picturization and the voice of the singer too. Do check it, its very creative and the meaning is also lovely.

2)Amy Grant – Baby Baby :  I love this version of this song, the instrumental part of the song is awesome and love the cool voice of Amy Grant. Do check it.

3) Rihanna – Please Don’t Stop The Music: Yes, we don’t feel like stopping the music when we hear this. However, we need to hear this when we are going on a long drive. We should not hear this when we are tired or when we have hell lot work to do or lots of things to study. Its really interesting when we hear when hear in long ride .

4)Seheree – Oye : This amazing song from Oye film is really a good energizer. In this song we get to hear different varied perspectives of life from two different people. The importance of life and the way we life is explained very well.

5) Sydney Nagaram – Orange: This track from the movie “Orange” is amazing. Karunya sang it sooo well that we feel that no other singer can do justice to this song except for him. Though I do not watch movies of Ramcharan regularly, I admire this song. Do check it.

6) Nenu Nuvvantu – Orange: This serene song by Naresh Iyer became very popular. I fail to understand the name of the film Orange and its story however, it got wonderful music collection. Do check this song:

When we check the video, we get to see a different love story.  Wish I could translate these amazing lyrics. The simplicity of a person is well described in most decent manner. The beauty of simple person is well explained,This is not a regular love story where the hero and heroine sing songs in Australia or Austria 😀

Reaching Your Dream Takes Courage

As a part of regular poem browsing got to read this lovely poem on Courage, so thought of sharing it with all of you. The beauty of this poem is that the poet Caroline Kent defined courage in simple but perfect manner. Poet,Caroline Kent explained very well what is Courage is all about.  Do check this lovely poem and do not forget to pursue your dreams with courage 🙂

Reaching Your Dream Takes Courage

Courage is admitting that you’re afraid and facing that fear directly. It’s being strong enough to ask for help and humble enough to accept it.

Courage is standing up for what you believe in without worrying about the opinions of others. It’s following your own heart, living your own life, and settling for nothing less than the best for yourself.

Courage is daring to take a first step, a big leap, or a different path. It’s attempting to do something that no one has done before and all others thought impossible.

Courage is keeping heart in the face of disappointment and looking at defeat not as an end but as a new beginning. It’s believing that things will ultimately get better even as they get worse.

Courage is being responsible for your own actions and admitting your own mistakes without placing blame on others. It’s relying not on others for your success, but on your own skills and efforts.

Courage is refusing to quit even when you’re intimidated by impossibility. It’s choosing a goal, sticking with it, and finding solutions to the problems.

Courage is thinking big, aiming high, and shooting far. It’s taking a dream and doing anything, risking everything, and stopping at nothing to it make it a reality.

Sensitiveness and Strength :)

Today I got chance to read this wonderful article of Sri Sri Ravishankar ji, so thought of sharing it with all of you here :

Sometimes people say words and they really don’t feel that way. Don’t you do it sometimes? As children, you say things that you don’t really mean. Kids usually say things they mean. As we grow older, our feelings and words grow apart. They are not the same. Now, don’t worry about what other people are feeling. Feelings are fleeting. One day they feel good, next day they don’t. Don’t bother about this. Simply acknowledge that that person is not feeling good and that they are here to work on it. Our being angry that someone is feeling bad doesn’t make sense. Sometimes their feelings change but your feelings remain the same. Someone puts a doubt in your head and then they forget but you hold on to it. The same is with senior citizens who complain but then forget while you hold on to the complaint.

Look at the present moment – now, now, now! Wake up NOW! Everything else is stupid. All that has happened has gone into emptiness. Everything dissolves into emptiness. Your entire past – wiped out! All the things that you felt are gone. Good or bad, they are gone. So, wake up to the truth of the present moment. Divinity is in the present moment. This is yoga. Yoga is being established in the moment. And moment does not mean fleeting moment. The moment has the depth of infinity; it has all the past and all the future.

Who cares what you feel? Throw your feelings into the ocean. A little sensation or discomfort arises. Who cares? Are you doing what you want to do? And, in doing what you want to do, are you keeping the delicacy of your consciousness or are you being like a bulldozer (I will do whatever I want)? Being like a bulldozer is being insensitive. Being oversensitive and very weak and being like a bulldozer are both not correct. The best combination is being sensitive and strong. This is wisdom and this is what we have to work on.

The effect of past actions is limited. Past actions definitely affect you e.g. you drive fast, get a ticket, and you have to pay. Get three tickets and you have to surrender your license, no doubt. But don’t brood over it. Wake up. When you wake up, even the consequences you fear will not happen. You will be forgiven in that moment. The moment we acknowledge our mistake, we are forgiven. So you are innocent every moment you are awake. Now! Now! Now!

Take the challenge. Whenever someone is nasty towards you, do something so nice that it takes them by surprise. You will suddenly find there is a shift happening. If it does not happen also it is fine. At least you have done something good.

The world is a very funny place, I tell you. Either it is very entertaining or it is such a pain and so miserable! You can’t take it. Sometimes, you do so much for someone and they turn their back and do things that harm you. Many parents say, ‘I did so much for my children and now they are dissociating from me.’ Not just with parents, but same with employers, friends, siblings, and even spouse.
