Let All Be Well

I am very disturbed from yesterday hearing about the ill health and bad days of couple of my friends. It is very sad indeed when we cannot do anything except for hearing about their pain. My wishes and prayers to my friends and all the people in the world.

I wish to pray this ancient Sanskrit prayer for the well being of all the people in the world .

Sarve Api Sukhinah santu
Sarve santu niramayah
Sarve bhadrani Pashyantu
Maa kaschid dukha bhag bhaveth

Meaning of this  ancient sanskrit verse  is:

May every being be happy,
May every being be free from all diseases,
May every being be blissful,
May there not be a trace of sorrow for anyone.

The Magic Of Believing: Protect Your Dreams

One of the important ingredients for living life is “Power to Dream”. The moment we lose this power to dream, we become energy-less, dull, lifeless. Hence it is important to dream , having dreams depicts the hope levels in a person. Let me put in this manner in my own fashion, if you are able to generate the power called Dreams it just means that your reservoir of water called Hope is ample 😉 .

However, we need to understand that just possessing the power of dreaming is not sufficient. We need to guard, nourish our dreams like a responsible gardener. We need to protect our dreams from horrible external agents, we need to nourish our dreams into actions with the help of our resources and external resources.  Sometimes, it takes long for your dreams to visualize , during that phase you need to pay much more attention to your dreams. You need to believe in your dreams without getting perturbed by unfavorable situations.

In this context I wish to mention about this scene from my all time favorite film “Pursuit of Happyness” :

Christopher Gardner: Hey. Don’t ever let somebody tell you… You can’t do something. Not even me. All right?

Christopher: All right.

Christopher Gardner: You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.

Hope you people enjoyed watching  this inspirational video once again. Ultimate pleasure in life is the pleasure we derive in achieving the things which others said we cannot do. However, we need not do and should do things in life just for the sake of others or to prove something to others. Some people try to pull us down when we don’t achieve things according to normal standards and normal speeds ;). However, they forget that these not so normal people are the people who think different and do wonderful things.

Let me share you a wonderful poem which I came across today during my casual poem reading session. The message in this poem is so strong even though they used simple words. Hope you too enjoy reading this poem.

It Couldn’t be Done by Edgar Guest

Somebody said that it couldn’t be done,
But, he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.

So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, as he did it.

Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that;
At least no one we know has done it”;
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.

With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.

But just buckle right in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That cannot be done, and you’ll do it

Last but not least, I wish to conclude this lengthy post of mine quoting Shri Abdul Kalam “There is a famous saying in Thirukural by Saint Poet Thiruvalluvar -Vellathanaythu Malar Neetam Mandartham Ullathanaytu UyarvuIt means that, just like the height of the water in a pond determines the height to which a lily would grow, it is the heights of thoughts that determines the heights to which you could aspire for. So as human beings they should have great thoughts, great aims, and when thoughts become transformed into actions performed with perseverance and devotion, success has to follow.”

Some Random Thoughts On Life…

First of all I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to all the loved ones of the Mangalore plane crash victims on their untimely death .   I pray for their souls to rest in peace and hope God gives courage for their family members to deal this situation. Losing a family member is not easy.

I was quite disturbed from morning after seeing all the visuals on TV.  However, this made me think about life. It’s really silly and immature that we have fears for some unnecessary things in life, however we can live our life in a better manner when we realize that each one us may die at any time . Death is not something which comes to us according to our convenience and according to our schedules.  So, when death comes to us, we should be able to die without regret. We should not wait to do things. We should not post pone things. We should live our life with a strong message ringing in our mind always ‘We are mortals.’

We need to learn to live happily in our current state without waiting for some great thing to happen. I am sharing some tips suggested to us in our Art of Living classes:

On the aspect of Happiness :

  • Learn to live in the present moment. Don’t bother about past or future.
  • Learn , not to relate your happiness to a PERSON, or EVENT or WORK….you need not wait things to happen or people to come TO BE HAPPY at this PRESENT MOMENT
  • Learn to appreciate the beauty of all the opposites in life… as they are complementary..appreciate light and darkness..appreciate problems and good times…appreciate failure and success…. etc…
  • Learn to accept yourself
  • Learn to accept the PRESENT MOMENT as it is with SMILE….we have no other option left to accept life..then why bother to accept life with a cry or anger….accept it with SMILE
  • If something is good for you YOU WILL GET IT … don’t spoil the present moment unnecessarily planning and worrying about that…

On having control over your emotions:

YOU are NOT a TV. Do not give the remote of your life to anyone. Take charge of your life. Do not let other people play with your emotions…added to that you not a silly machine…that you need to react and act to everything told by others…just like if others want to make you ANGRY…they need not succeed by simply pressing a red button, if other want to make you depressed…they need not succeed by pressing Black button…..driving the point home…don’t let your emotions flow on the basis of others action….YOU NEED TO CHOOSE and have CONTROL on your emotions and feelings…..

On the aspect of accepting people :

In general we have problem when meet folks whose interests DO NOT match with ours…we think ..they are not of our type..our wavelengths are different and all…so WE HAVE PROBLEM WITH NOT SO LIKE MINDED FOLKS…..

When we meet a person with our same interests, same mindsets, same ideas of life, same hobbies…..EVEN then WE HAVE A PROBLEM…we feel that person is trying to COPY YOU or TRYING TO IMPRESS you as they want some favor from US….so WE HAVE PROBLEM WITH LIKE MINDED FOLKS too…..

Thanda Thanda Cool Cool for this SUMMER

Yet another  year  of sweet hot summer in India ….this time temperatures are soooooooooo high right from March itself in all the places in India.  It’s already May and the temperatures are soaring high 😦 .

Due to these hot summers we are prone to sun stroke and several ailments related to heat.  I wish to share some of the advises from Dad, Mom, brothers, aunts, uncles, dadi’s and cousins related to home remedies on this SUNSTROKE thing….they are useful and thought I will share with all of you as they might be useful to all of you too……

1)Drink lots of water:

Drink drink drink…untill u get bored…of drinking water..but be sure that u drink at least 10 glasses of water minimum….

2)Drink lemon water.

Lemon juice(1 lemon) + pinch of salt + 1 spoon sugar + 1 glass of water = lemon water

Lemon water is amrut. This is juice of all seasons and for all diseases. It is good for sunstroke, it good for BP patients, it is good for diabetic patients, it is good for heart patients ….basically its an energize…even if people don’t have any sickness…even then they can drink it daily…..

If you want to make your lemon water lil bit more tasty…then add lil bit of ginger in it…take small piece of ginger, then grind it and add to the lemon water, it tastes good.

3) Drink Buttermilk.

This is another great discovery of humans. Btw Buttermilk is not just water added to curd. There is something called “Churning process”. You need to add water to the curd and churn it with the centrifuge. I don’t know what you call it another languages but in Telugu we call centrifuge as “kavvam”. Churning of curd with water makes it effective buttermilk. Drink as much buttermilk as you can.
Btw you know what. You can make your boring buttermilk lil bit better by adding this special powder:

To make that powder take Lil bit of salt(may be a pinch of salt) + lil bit of sugar + lil bit of ginger + few curry leaves + jeera and grind all these stuff…. mix this stuff in your buttermilk…..your butter milk will taste better and because of these stuff much more value is added to that buttermilk…all these mentioned stuff are good for digestive system..

4)Drink Coconut water

Whenever…wherever you  get coconut water, drink it….it is divine potion 🙂

5)Drink Barley water….(Barley water are soooooooooooo good for health..beleive me!!!). We get Barley seeds in shops. You need to take those seeds, boil them in lots of water. After boiling….filter those seeds and you get barley water. You can drink them with out without sugar in them.

6) Drink Orange juice.

Hmm. This is my favorite juice. So I can drink and make orange juice any time 🙂 . The real secret is making orange juice is damn easy. Peel the orange, put those orange pieces in jar, add lil bit of sugar(if you want) and then add water….now you can make the juice and drink…this juice is an instant energiser…

After drinking all these stuff….

If you have time and space left in your stomach….eat fruits which have more water content in it….watermelon is the BEST fruit.
To make your watermelon more yummy….sprinkle….pepper powder and lil bit salt on the watermelon pieces….beleive me..its soo yummy….

All the tips written here are tested and verified…so no need to worry 🙂

Btw…don’t forget to carry an umbrella if you need to go outside…may be it’s not fashionable to carry an umbrella…but its lousy to fall sick and the people who make fun of us will not take our medicines when we fall sick…so don’t bother about others….

Btw do share your tips if you have any to deal this sunstroke….

Drink Well, Eat Well and Stay Healthy.

Ramblings About Mother’s Day

First of all let me wish Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s in the world.  Some how I fall short of words today to write about Mother and Mother’s Day after seeing several  wonderful posts, articles, poems , programs on Mother and Mother’s Day.

I don’t fall into that category of daughter’s who share everything with Mom and for whom Mom is Friend, Philosopher, Guide and all. Reason!!! That position is fully occupied by my Brothers 🙂 .  My Mom and Me share a Tom and Jerry relationship.  We happily disagree each other all the times on everything.

However, things are changing these days ..infact from few months. Just for the simple fact that I started looking at my Mom in a better manner. She is the same old wonderful mother who is always busy in the works of her daughter i.,e Me . For her I am a major part of her world. She wants me to look good, wear pretty clothes, do well at Job, study more in life, learn more cooking blah blah blah 😉 . She is even the same today, however I think I reformed my ways and my perception towards my mother.  Have been realizing the importance of parents, siblings these days very much after seeing some folks who don’t have them in their life now.  When I see them and their pain, I really get scared, feel ashamed and I feel that I need to be more responsible and caring towards my people. Nothing/No one is permanent in life, however we need to treasure the relationships in life whether its parents or siblings or friends…we need to treasure them.

So to butter my Mom on this Mother’s Day I made mega Break fast for Mom and Dad. My Aunt too joined for the breakfast and I overheard my Mom saying to Aunt “She makes food very deliciously within no time…provided her mood is good else she does not even look at Kitchen’s side”.  I felt nice hearing good words about me from Mom. Isn’t  it cute when Tom praises Jerry 😉

In the afternoon, when all were reading  Sunday’s papers TOI, THE HINDU, EENADU religiously. Suddenly My Dad became nostalgic seeing a quote in Eenadu paper’s Sunday book. The summary of the quote is like this: When there are 4 people and if there is food sufficient only for 3 people, the person who says ” I am not hungry and I not interested to eat now” is none other than MOTHER“.  My dad went back to a dull phase of his childhood where they struggled for food after a great economic loss. He explained to Mom and Me how our Granny used to struggle a lot in feeding the kids and how she used to sacrifice her portion of food for the sake of kids. Some how he felt happy that Granny lived a luxurious life  in her old age. I never saw Dad speaking to that length about Granny till date.

My Mother too felt nostalgic. She described how her mother  i.,e my Grandma struggled a lot in upbringing the kids with small salaries of Grandpa. She described how Grandma used to struggle in the village drawing water from the wells, using the wood for the stove and all.  Hmm!!! I didn’t knew that a single quote in a book  took Dad and Mom  in a time machine to past 🙂

Somehow, our discussion took a turn to present day’s Kids and Moms. We discussed the feelings, state of mind of kids of working mothers. The way kids are left in summer camps, some or the other workshop instead of spending nice time with Mom at home. Working mothers are also not on the wrong side. They too like spending time with kids , however career and the associated responsibilities make them take some tough decisions. Those decisions have impact on the kids.  Some how this part of discussion left me confused. I wondered if career is really important than kids? At the same I wondered in this expensive world is there any choice of working and not working? However,  Mrs.Kajol Ajay Devgn’s words in TOI’s special edition on Mother’s Day cleared my confusion to some extent and  made me happy. I quote Mrs.Kajol  “Your career is part of your life, your family is part of your life, and your whole life — your personality — is made of every part put together. It’s upto you to strike the right balance,”

Oh My Dear Rahi Manwa Dukh Ki Chinta Kyon Satati Hai???

Rahi Manwa Dukh Ki Chinta Kyon Satati Hai
Dukh Tho Apna Saathi Hai
Sukh Hai Ek Chavun Dhalti, Aati Hai Jaati Hai,
Dukh Tho Apna Saathi Hai,

Door Hai Manzil Door Sahi, Pyar Hamaara Kya Kam Hai,
Pag Mein Kaanten Lakh Sahi, Par Yeh Sahara Kya Kam Hai,
Ham Raha Tere Koyi Apna Tho Hai, Ham Raha Tere Koyi Apna Tho Hai,
Ooo Sukh Hai Ek Chavun Dhalti Aati Hai Jaati Hai,
Dukh Tho Apna Saathi Hai,

Dukh Ho Koyi, Tab Jalte Hein, Pat Ke Deep Nigahon Mein,
Itni Badi Is Duniya Ki, Lambi Akeli Raahon Mein,
Ham Raha Tere Koyi Apna Tho Hai, Ham Raha Tere Koyi Apna Tho Hai
Ooo Sukh Hai Ek Chavun Dhalti Aati Hai Jaati Hai,
Dukh Tho Apna Saathi Hai,

Rahi Manwa Dukh Ki Chinta Kyon Satati Hai
Dukh Tho Apna Saathi Hai,
Sukh Hai Ek Chavun Dhalti, Aati Hai Jaati Hai,
Dukh Tho Apna Saathi Hai

Above lyrics are of the song Raahi Manva Dukh Ki Chinta by Rafi Sahab from the movie “Dosti”You can find detailed analysis of this song and its translation in this page.

We are born and brought up to treat the concept of Dukh as VILLAIN of the Life.  However as we grow in our life we understand that Dukh is also important part of our life.  We realise that Dukh(Problems Phase) is an important phase of our Life Cycle.  Understanding Sukh(Happy Phase) in life is not an issue as we might not be bothered to analyse it in our Happy Phase (Sukh). However , it is very important to understand the concept of Dukh. Our life will be little bit better if we try to understand the lessons from Dukh. We need to adopt a better way to deal with Dukh to make our life better. To do this, we need to perceive , look at Dukh in a better manner.

I really liked the way the concept of “Dukh” is dealt in a wonderful manner in this song. The beauty of Dukh and Sukh in a person’s  life is well explained . Importance of enjoying the journey of  life and not getting stuck in  journey with the problems is well emphasized.  Its well described in the song how people who love us stand by us in the times of our problems and help us in dealing those problems 🙂 .

Here is the video of this song 🙂
